Blood spatter and candy

Today started with Analyssa waking up at 7:15 to go to physical therapy. I got to sleep in because camp started later. I got up at 9:30 to take a shower and then got ready. My brother Noel drove me to camp, and once again I was the first one there. I was alone in the room with Linday for like 15 minutes! Those were very amusing minutes. Once everyone got there, we worked on Alice. Analyssa got to camp at 11:45, and we worked on a walk method for our project. After Alice time, we worked on blood spatter analysis. We dropped fake blood onto paper to mimic an open wound bleeding freely. Then we had a guest speaker. She talked to us about her career and gave us cool water bottles with candy inside. Then it was lunch. I had this amazing chicken and bacon sandwich. I loved it! Everything is made better when it has bacon in it =) After lunch it was open lab, and we worked on lilypad, our app, and a little on Alice. Then we did more blood spatter stuff before going back to open lab.

And now for the prompt!!

I don't really pay attention to fashion, so I don't know what's "in" this summer. I guess I like graphic tees under button-up t-shirts that are unbuttoned, if that makes any sense. I don't like skimpy tank tops or really short shorts. I don't know why girls like showing what they've got. It may be hot, but not that hot!

Fingerprints and Painting

Today started out LilyPad. I painted most of my bag, so now I just have to outline stuff. While waiting for the paint to dry, I programmed my speaker to play Greensleeves from Fantasia! That was relatively easy, because it was a lot of repeated notes. The hard part about it was figuring out the duration of the notes. In the end I got it, though. After LilyPad, we went to lunch. It was so good!!!! We had Andeles enchiladas and taquitos. It was delicious. After we finished eating, we played two games on this cool game called Set. I sorta got the hang of it by the end of lunch.

After lunch we worked on Alice. We made a shooting method and then got to work on our projects. We still have so much to do!!!!!! Once Alice time was up we went outside and did the blanket activity. We came up with a loop-hole by sitting down and having all of our feet resting on the blanket. Eventually the other girls figured out the other loop-hole that the genius Galen figured out. We got a picture and then headed inside. Once inside we got started on fingerprints and had to lift some for a competition.

Now for the prompt!!!

In 10 years, I will be 25 almost 26 years old. I see myself finishing up my masters degree in Computer Science either at NMSU or NM Tech. I hope to have a career in computer science somewhere near Las Cruces. If that isn't possible, then I hope to still live somewhere in New Mexico. I hope to be in a good relationship with someone, but I don't see myself married at that time, and God forbid I have any kids by then. Things could change, but that's what I see right now.

An early start

Today's blog will be short and sweet because I have too big a headache to try to concentrate long enough to put too much effort into it. Why am I so tired you ask? Because I had to wake up at 5 in the morning to be ready to leave at 6 for a doctor's appointment in El Paso at 7:30(the doctor has a lot of patients). I tried sleeping on the way, but for me, once I wake up I can't go to sleep no matter how hard I try.

When we got to the office, I was called into the back after about 10 minutes. The doctor talked to me about my options. What was this appointment about? Well, when I was almost 8 years old, I broke my radius and my ulna(basically my arm) very close to my wrist. For some reason my ulna didn't heal right. It healed at an angle, which doesn't allow my arm to fully rotate. I can only go half-way. So the doc told me that one of my options was surgery. He would have to break my bone again and cut out a wedge so that the bone would re-align with the joint. Then he would have to screw a plate onto my ulna so that it would heal in place. I was so happy when he told me that that the option was availible to me. Most doctors that I've been to haven't told me that I could get the surgery. I'm scheduled to have it August 6th in El Paso.

When we got to camp, we worked on Alice for a while and then on LilyPad. We practiced sewing and then came up with designs. Then was lunch. We had Korean food I think. It wasn't very appetizing, but food is food and I was starving. After lunch we worked on LilyPad and then NXT. Analyssa wasn't there for NXT, so I had to try to program the Segway Man. And guess what? It was impossible! The people who had made the program created their own blocks. So I couldn't program it. But at least I got to play with the machine gun!!

UPDATE: I forgot to do the prompt, so I'll do it now. My name means " most holy". When our mom picked our names, there was a vote, and luckily my name won out against the name Anel. I like my name and how it sounds. My middle name is Margarita, which means pearl. I got my middle name from my grandma. I like it, but whenever I tell people what it is, they laugh and pronounce it wrong and mock me. And my first name is always mispronounced. I've had people call me Adrianna, Arrianna(pronounced are-ee-ah-na), Audrianna, and I've had people spell my name those ways plus Ariana. And all those misspellings do not mean the same thing! It frustrates me. I like being called Ari, though. So you guys can address me by that.

Machine Guns!!!

Today was a day quite unlike any other. Not really. But today was sugar cookie day, which has gotta count for somethin. Anyhways, today started with the alarm clock blaring at me, forcing me to abandon all hope of more sleep after a restless night. Reluctantly I dragged myself out of bed and slowly walked to the shower. After 20 minutes under steamy water, I got out and got ready for camp.

We left for NMSU at 9:40. Once again, we were the first people there. As soon as everyone was there, we jumped right into AppInventor. Jade and I tried to figure out how to do a point range for our app. It's still in the works, but we got further than I thought we would. I'll have to work on it later...

Towards the end of app inventor time, we went outside and played a game. After that, we worked on lilypad. I have yet to decide on what I want to do, but at least I have several ideas. Oh, well. I don't think I can top my other bag.
Then came lunch.

We had sandwiches and chips. Once lunch was over we went inside the lab and got to work on Alice. I tried modifying my walk method to make it look smoother until we had to pair up and come up with an idea about what to do for our Alice video.

After that we worked on NXT. We made this awesome machine gun!!! It was so cool =)  We finished early and had time to play around with it.

And now for the prompt!!!

My restaurant would be called A Taste of Perfection =)  It would be a small restaurant with sofas and coffee tables all around. There would be lamps set up and we would serve finger foods and comfort food. That's all I can imagine at the moment...

A trip to the dentist...

Just to let you guys know, I hate the dentist and I HATE needles. So waking up this morning knowing that I had to go to the dentist for some fillings just made my blood pressure go sky high and my anxiety level rise a few notches. I tried to think of other things and actually succeeded when I got to camp! When we got there we waited about 5 minutes until the other girls got there. Then we dived into App Inventor. Jade and I got the interface done, so all that's left is the programming. Except that we have a lot of programming to do....Dang. I need to work on it later... Anyhways, during our App Inventor time, we took a break and went outside to do the human knot. It wasn't as bad as the last time we did it. We actually made only one circle the first time! Then we did again and 4 girls made their own circle. Once we had ourselves un-knotted, we went inside to finish up App Inventor. We finished the questions and barely started on the program.

Then it was lunch time! I grabbed 2 slices of pizza before going out to meet my mom so she could drive me to the dreaded dentist. When we got there, we waited about 5 minutes before the lady called us back. I was seated in the dentist chair and immediately  had a swab with orajell put into my mouth where they would inject the numbing agent into me...*shudders* It was horrible when they got out the needle and told me to open my mouth. I had to breath deeply and clench my hands into fists before opened my mouth. It hurt a lot when they put the needle in. And then they didn't give me enough numbing stuff, so they had to inject me again before they could start. When I was mostly numb, they started drilling. After about half an hour, they were done. I was so glad when it was over.

Then I went back to camp. When I got there the girls were working on Alice. I opened Alice and started working on a walking method. I got it pretty good, too. Then we started working on the lego robots! I was happy when Analyssa told me that we could make the segway. we finished building it, but we still have to program it. Oh, well. That's something to do tomorrow.

And now for the prompt!

1) Favorite candy - Kit Kat
2) Favorite musician - Jimmy Eat World
3) Favorite flower - Red and pink roses
4) Favorite restaurant - Lorenzo's
5) Favorite snack - Pomogranets
6) Favorite drink - Strawberry banana smoothies!
7) Favorite color - Electric blue
8) Favorite books - Divergent by Veronica Roth and Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
9) Favorite animal - Gray Wolves
10) Favorite subject - Math

New things are good things

Today was the first official day of the residential camp! I was so happy =) Even though I've been to every high school camp this summer, I still enjoy attending them. I just love YWiC. Pardon my love.

Anyhways, today started out with me thinking it was a Monday until I saw the paper.  As soon as I saw that today was Sunday, I thought to myself, hmmmm....today feels like a Monday... And then I went about my morning. Since we live about 15 minutes away from NMSU, we decided to leave at 9:30 so as to arrive here at 9:45. When we got inside, we discovered that the other campers weren't there! They were still at McDonalds, eating breakfast. We walked around before sitting at our new seats. Finally, the other girls got there. Once they had all arrived, we went outside to do a game. A sentence was read, and if you agreed with it, you stepped into the circle. Once we finished the activity, we went inside and jumped right into the fascinating presentation on core concepts. I always forget what they are (surprise, is it not?) so I took notes this time! See, always thinking ahead ;)

After that, we made posters. I partnered up with my sister (of course) and we made an incredibly boring poster. We did our presentations and then lounged around, waiting for what seemed like an eternity for the food to come. And at last it came!!!! We rushed into the other room and got our food. It was amazing! When lunch was over, we played a running version of Jeopardy. Our team won!!!!! I was so happy, because the team I was on got second last time.

After Jeopardy, we went into the computer lab and got to work on AppInventor. I made a Quiz Me app and altered it so that it was a quiz about my favorite book: Divergent!!!! Then we got into groups for our app. Analyssa and I decided to do the unthinkable and split up!! GAASSSPPPP  I know right?! I partnered up with Jade and Analyssa partnered up with Sofia. We decided to make a personality test that showed you what animal you would be if you weren't human. Overall it was a very good day =)

And now for the prompt! My name is Arianna Margarita Martinez. I am a sophomore at Centennial High School. I am 15 years old. I was born on September 10, 1997. My twin sister Analyssa is 11 minutes older than me. I game 3 other older siblings, the oldest being 35 years old. That wasn't that important, but I felt that it needed to be said. I love the color electric blue, I love Italian and Mexican food, my favorite books are divergent by Veronica Roth and under the never sky by Veronica Rossi. My favorite bands are Jimmy Eat World and the Civil Wars. My favorite movie is Tangled. My favorite time of year is fall. I hate spiders, I hate dancing, and I hate needles. I think that's it so far.

Just another Monday....

Seeing as how I may as well use this blog for other things besides camp, I shall use it to display some of my poems. Enjoy!

Innocent Love

Long I've waited,
So elated,
    For this day to come.

My heart is pounding,
Ever sounding
    Like a beating drum.

My friends around me,
Sleeping soundly,
Know not of me and you.

Happy feelings,
Longed-for dreamings,
    Ready to come true.

Let me know what you think!

I need more time!!!!

Well today was somewhat productive. We got most of our dance done (no thanks to Alice) but we still haven't quite finished it yet. We still have to have an ending. Our snake is done, so we don't have to work on that at least. Now it's just Alice DX AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't like certain aspects of this new Alice (>.<)
Well, at least the morning activity and lunch was fun. We had fun doing the activity, because I got to knock Styrofoam balls off of spoons. I didn't win, but that was ok. I got to help Analyssa gang up on Linday =P
Once inside, we dove into Alice and poured our blood and sweat into the stupid music video! Then it was lunch!!! We had amazing pizza and garlic bread. Yum!!! I ate with Galen, so of course my stomach hurt by the end of lunch because I was laughing so hard =]  It was nice, laughing that hard. It's been a while...
After lunch, we worked on the music video while The Hunger Games played. We took occasional breaks to watch the movie and let Alice rest. At the moment I am writing this blog, but after I finish I will continue to work on the music video. Until 5. Possibly. I hope not =/

Attack of the Rattle Snake!!!!

This morning's activity was really fun! We had to link arms and sit down (switch those around...) and then try to stand up with arms linked. With two people it was easy, especially because I was partnered up with Analyssa =) We got up in literally a second! Then we got into bigger groups, and of course it got harder XP After all that nonsense was finished, we went inside and finished our flipping gymnast. We were the first ones to finish, so Linday told us that we could start working on our project for Friday. We decided to make a rattle snake, and we finished it!!!!!!!! I was happy, because it was so CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We finished right before lunch, so we went to get some food. I was disheartened, because lunch was Korean food. meh. Oh, well. I still ate it. After lunch we went into the lab and made a project with Susi that focused on events before working on our group projects. We got the guys to move their arms the way we wanted them to, but we couldn't figure out how to make them go back into the same position that they were in at the beginning. =/

And now for the prompt!!!!

Lets see, ten things that make me happy. Hhhmmmmmm... Well, hanging with my sisters, reading my favorite books (Divergent by Veronica Roth and Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi) listening to my music, eating Italian food, listening to Mexican music, eating triple chocolate cake, hanging with my friends, cross stitching, playing my violin, and hanging out with the YWiC crew =)

YMCA!!

Well, today started off with a group activity that tested everyone's memory. We formed a circle (sorta) after we stopped looking at the poor baby pigeon that was all alone on the sidewalk. Once we were in our wannabe circle, we went around the circle and said our name and something that we like to do. The catch was that we had to say everyone's name that was in front of us and the thing that they liked to do. It was easy for me because I was number 3 to say my name and whatnot. I felt bad for Susi, though. She was the last girl to say her name. After that, we stole a quick look at the baby pigeon before walking inside.
When we got into the classroom, we jumped right in to Alice. We went through a tutorial with Susi before starting on our group projects. Analyssa (my partner) and I got pretty far on ours, considering that we were doing a music video on YMCA and we only had like an hour or so to it. We got our guys to put their hands on their hips and tap their foot, and we've got the beginnings of the "Young Man" portion of the song. Not much, I'll admit, but I was satisfied with what we accomplished.
Lunch was delicious and quite entertaining. We had Andeles!!!! I got the enchiladas and some chicken floutas. We had a very interesting conversation with Galen and her crew about Disney movies.
When lunch was over, we tried to solve a crime scene. It was hard, and a lot of the evidence that we found couldn't be used. Oh, well. It was fun playing detective. After that, we worked on Lego NXT, which was really fun. We didn't get to finish, but that was ok. I still had fun =)

Day 1, Camp 2

Today was exciting. Today was the first day of camp 2 for YWiC. This was the camp that I wanted to go to the most. My reasons: I love programming in Alice and NXT Lego robotics. As per the norm, we went outside in the morning to do an icebreaker. Afterwards, we went inside and got started on Alice. Then it was lunchtime! We had awesome sandwiches and chips. When lunch was over, we went outside for another group activity. The challenge was to get every single person on your team onto a blanket. The other team beat my team because one clever genius (Galen) found a loop-hole.
After the group activity, we went outside and worked on BPA, which is so cool. When that was over, we worked on our Alice projects. Overall, it was a very cool day.

The prompt of the day: What quality or talent is most likely to make you famous one day?
One of my talents that could make me famous one day is my poetry abilities. Most people who read my poetry say it's really good, and I've already had some of my poems published through a poetry contest. I don't know if I'm a good enough poet to be famous one day, but I will continue to write poems throughout my life, since it's a good way to express my feelings.

Day 4

Today was another packed day. We started out with the morning activity, but we had some spare time and used it to make more letters. After that, we went inside and worked on our LilyPad projects. I am so behind!!!!!!!!! It makes me sad =( But at least our app is done (THANK YOU ALLISON!!!!!!), so I don't have to worry about that. If only I could stop time and finish my bag.... Anyways, I got most of the painting done on my bag, and I've sewn on some of the components onto it.
At lunch, we had a Potterluck, which was cool. I tried the Butterbeer, and it was pretty good. When lunch was over, we had open lab, and I got a lot done on my bag. All I have to do is sew the components together with conductive thread!!!

And now for the prompt of the day: What would you do if you weren't afraid?

If I wasn't afraid, I'd speak my mind more often and stop people from walking all over me. Because I was afraid of looking bad and people not liking me, I couldn't say "no", so I was a doormat to almost anyone who met me or worked with me on projects.
I'd also tell people my honest opinion and tell people who I really am. I hide behind a mask most of the time because I'm afraid of rejection. If I wasn't afraid, I'd tear that mask off my face and destroy it.

Day 3

Today was interesting to say the least. Instead of going to camp, I went to see a hand doctor in El Paso. We had to leave at 7:00 to make it to my appointment, which was at 8:45. Even though we got there at 8:00, we were in the waiting room until 10! When the doctor finally saw me, he examined my hand and had me get x-rays in the office. After that, he talked to me about my options. I could either go on living with my hand like I have been for the past 7 years or I could have surgery. I opted for the surgery, and the doctor's office scheduled an appointment for me at Sun View for a MRI so that the doctor could determine what to do and if he has to fix the joint. That sounded better than what other doctors have told me in the past, so I was happy.
We got out of the doctor's office at 12:00 and got roast beef sandwiches at Arby's and drove to NMSU. I got to camp and worked on our app with my sister Analyssa and our friend Allison. We came up with the idea of hangman and worked on it.

The prompt for the day: Which character from a book would you like to meet and why? What would you do with them?

I would like to meet Tris from the Divergent series. She's a Divergent rebel who chooses to be in the Dauntless faction. She has certain ideas about the world she lives in that our  similar to my own ideas. She is smart, brave, and selfless, which is why she is divergent. She doesn't belong in any faction because one description doesn't completely describe her. You can't say that she is just smart, or brave, or selfless. Because she is selfless, she is brave for the people she loves. Since she is smart, she can save her loved ones. While she can be selfish at times like in Insurgent, I can understand her reasoning. I would want to talk about the decisions that she makes in both books and talk about her views on different matters.

Day 2

Today was interesting. We started out by sitting down in the classroom, only to get up and go outside. While outside, we made a human knot and tried(unsuccessfully) to untie ourselves. Somehow we managed to make two circles. We had to try again and ended up making FOUR circles. I have know idea how that happened, but it did. We went inside and got started on my favorite thing this camp: LilyPad!!!!! We practiced programming and sewing, then worked on our designs. Mine is a pretty awesome design, if I do say so myself (which I do). I drew Jack Skeleton and his ghost-dog Zero in front of a moon. Then we worked on AppInventor until 2 o'clock. Overall it was a fun day.

Our prompt for the day: Write a run-on sentence about what we have to do.
Well, I have to finish my design for lilypad and design an app and outline my bag design and sew on the lilypad pieces and clean up my room at home and feed the dog and do my chores and do my summer homework and figuring out sally's song on lilypad and I don't know what else to say.

My First Day of Camp!!

Today was the first day of camp this summer! We started the day with a 10-minute orientation. When that was done, we went outside and broke the ice with a beach ball activity designed to have everyone get to know each other. After that, we went inside and sat down in the computer room. We learned about core concepts and then played a game of Jeopardy. I was so upset! My team lost 300 points, all because I forgot to say "What is". Still, we got second place with 2200 points.
